Zvi Malnovitzer is a worldwide famous artist. He was born to an ultra-Orthodox family and connected in the art two almost disjoint worlds, two identities, spiritual and material. His art has a unique energy and mood, each of his painting has a message that spectators can feel and internalize. Being inspired by Rembrandt van Rijn and Francisco de Goya, he created an interesting approach to the notion of light. The artist illuminates his artworks by the complex of light reflections on objects and in the background.
During religious studies in the childhood, the young artist used old bed sheets and scraps of wood to create his first works. In 1958, at the age of 13 the painter received a letter of recommendation from the sculptor Ellul Kussow. Lately, while studying in Ponevezh yeshiva, Zvi Malnovitzer attended art classes of Yehuda Wallerstein, Israeli artist and a neighbor. Gradually, Malnovitzer’s art started to be exhibited and recognized. In 1977, the painter participated in a group exhibition and presented a solo exhibition in Tel-Aviv.
After several years of traveling and studies, Zvi Malnovitzer sold his house and car in order to invest into his vocation. That was done under the blessing of his rabbi. These events were quickly followed by many exhibitions, including those held in Munich, Paris, New-York, Philadelphia, Vienna, Tokyo.
